Trout to undergo MRI after leaving early with tight calf

Los Angeles Angels superstar Mike Trout was removed from Sunday's game against the Seattle Mariners in the top of the third inning due to right calf tightness, the team announced.

Trout lobbied manager Brad Ausmus to remain in the game, according to Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com. The Angels are listing him as day-to-day

The team isn't taking any chances, as the two-time MVP will undergo an MRI on Monday, but the issue isn't considered serious.

"They're just playing it safe," Trout said after his team's 6-3 win, according to ESPN's Alden Gonzalez. "Calves can be tough. You don't want it to get worse."

"I don't think it's a big deal," he added.

Trout lined out to first base during his only at-bat of the game in the first inning. Afterward, he didn't take his position in center field to start the third. Trout said he felt his calf tighten while patrolling center in the first, according to Bollinger.

Andrelton Simmons took Trout's spot in the lineup and played shortstop defensively, while Kole Calhoun moved from right field to center and David Fletcher slid from short to right.

Trout, who turns 28 next month, is producing another spectacular season for the Angels. He entered play on Sunday hitting .306./456/.668 with an AL-best 30 homers, 75 RBIs, 77 walks, and 6.5 wins above replacement.
