Detroit Tigers ace Michael Fulmer, who's been the subject of trade rumors this month, was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a left oblique strain on Friday, the team announced.

Right-hander Victor Alcantara has been recalled from Triple-A Toledo in a corresponding move.

The announcement was surprising, as it's unclear when Fulmer suffered the injury. He was still listed as the Tigers' scheduled starter for Sunday against the Boston Red Sox before getting hurt.

Detroit has reportedly been open to discussing Fulmer with other teams ahead of the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline, and the team was apparently fielding offers for him as recently as last week. His injury may put a wrench into the Tigers' deadline plans.

The 25-year-old AL Rookie of the Year in 2016 has made 19 starts for the Tigers this season, and he owns a 4.50 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, and 93 strikeouts to 38 walks.
