NHL Game Summary - Carolina at Washington

Washington, DC (SportsNetwork.com) - Nathan Gerbe scored the tie-breaking goal 6:59 into the third period as the Carolina Hurricanes came through with a 3-2 victory over the Washington Capitals at Verizon Center.

Former Capital Alexander Semin knotted the game at 2-2 with a 5-on-3 power- play conversion late in the second period, while Elias Lindholm netted his first career NHL goal earlier on to help the Hurricanes prevail.

Jeff Skinner added two assists for Carolina, which bounced back strongly from Tuesday's 5-2 setback at Pittsburgh, with Anton Khudobin turning aside 30- of-32 shots in the win.

The Capitals were dealt a second consecutive defeat despite Alex Ovechkin's fifth goal of the young season and a 33-save effort from Braden Holtby. Jason Chimera had Washington's only other score.
