Krieger lauds U.S. depth: We have world's best team and 2nd-best team
Confidence continues to emanate from the U.S. camp.
The United States booked a place in the knockout stages of the Women's World Cup with a straightforward 3-0 win over Chile on Sunday, making seven changes to the starting lineup that obliterated Thailand in the team's opening match last week.
Defender Ali Krieger, one of those backups who got an opportunity to start against the Chileans, lauded the depth of Jill Ellis' squad after the win.
"We have the best team in the world, and the second-best team in the world," the 34-year-old said, according to Andrew Keh of the New York Times.
"We have two starting lineups," star striker Alex Morgan added.
Through two matches, which have resulted in a combined 16-0 scoreline, Ellis has used all 20 of her outfield players. There will likely be more changes when the Americans close out Group F play against Sweden on Thursday.
"You've got to have fresh legs," the manager said in regards to the importance of squad rotation.
The U.S. needs only a draw against the Swedes to secure top spot in the group.
