Australia overcame a two-goal deficit to defeat Brazil 3-2 at the Women's World Cup on Thursday.

With the game tied in the 66th minute, the Australians went ahead after Emily van Egmond's long ball into the Brazil box went off Monica's head and into her own net.

A lengthy VAR review followed the tally and determined that Australia forward Sam Kerr did not impact the play despite being in an offside position.

Victory for the Australians looked like a remote possibility after Brazil jumped out to a 2-0 lead shortly before halftime. Marta opened the scoring by converting a penalty, becoming the only player to ever score in five separate World Cups in the process. Cristiane Rozeira doubled Brazil's lead just over 10 minutes later.

But Australia began mounting its comeback moments later when Caitlin Foord cut the deficit in half just before the break. Chloe Logarzo leveled the match when her ball into the box found a path into the back of the net less than 10 minutes before the Matildas grabbed the lead for good.

Brazil is level on points with Italy and Australia but sits atop Group C with one match remaining thanks to a superior goal differential.
