Swiatek crushes Podoroska to book spot in French Open final

Iga Swiatek's storybook run at Roland Garros continued with Thursday's 6-2, 6-1 semifinal victory over Nadia Podoroska.

Polish 19-year-old Swiatek outclassed Argentine qualifier Podoroska, breaking her opponent's serve on five occasions to cap a comprehensive result in windy conditions on the Court Philippe-Chatrier.

Swiatek, who now progresses to her first-ever Grand Slam final, won 70% of first serves and 59% of return points as the teen's breakneck pace of play and dominance on the baseline unsettled Podoroska.

Swiatek has yet to drop a set at the 2020 French Open amid a near-flawless run that includes the dismantling of top seed Simona Halep. Swiatek has not dropped more than five games in a match thus far in the French capital.

"I'm kind of surprised, really, because I would have never thought before the tournament that I would play so good here," Swiatek said, according to The Guardian's Tumaini Carayol. "But on the other hand, I always knew that if I'm gonna be in the final of a Grand Slam, it's gonna be the French Open. So I'm really happy. It's like a dream come true."

The world No. 54 now awaits the outcome of the other semifinal clash between two-time Wimbledon champ Petra Kvitova and Australian Open winner Sofia Kenin.
