The Court of Arbitration for Sport on Thursday banned Russia from using its name, flag, and anthem at the next two Olympics and any world championship events for the next two years, according to Graham Dunbar of The Associated Press.

Russian athletes are still eligible to compete in the 2021 Tokyo Games, the 2022 Olympics in Beijing, and the 2022 World Cup in Qatar so long as they are not implicated in the doping scandal that has rocked the international sporting world and sparked severe punishments for the country.

The International Olympic Committee banned Russia from the PyeongChang Olympics in 2018, but Russian athletes were allowed to compete as neutrals.

The World Anti-Doping Agency had proposed a four-year ban for Russia and its athletes after it determined Russian authorities tampered with a database from a Moscow testing lab before handing it over to investigators.
