Fever waive 2021 lottery pick Gondrezick
The Indiana Fever have waived Kysre Gondrezick, the team announced Tuesday.
Gondrezick, a 5-foot-9 guard, was selected fourth overall in the 2021 draft after concluding her collegiate career at West Virginia. The Fever have now waived each of their last two lottery picks before the end of their rookie deals.
Logging just over nine minutes a night across 19 appearances - all off the bench - for the WNBA-worst Fever, Gondrezick averaged 1.9 points on 27.8% shooting on twos and 28.6% on threes.
Following the 2021 season, Gondrezick detailed her struggles with mental health stemming in part from the sudden passing of her father, former NBA player Grant Gondrezick, last year.
"After losing my father, the pressure began to mount for what I considered my job as a facet of grieving. I wasn't present to the idea of effectively knowing how to cope," Gondrezick wrote on social media.
Gondrezick's short tenure with the team is the latest setback since the Fever promoted franchise icon Tamika Catchings to general manager in 2019. Indiana previously parted ways with frontcourt player Lauren Cox, the No. 3 pick in 2020, just 11 appearances into the 2021 season. The former Baylor standout ultimately finished the year with the Los Angeles Sparks, who re-signed her for 2022.
The Fever are set to select second in the 2022 WNBA Draft, their highest pick since drafting leading scoring Kelsey Mitchell at No. 2 in 2018.
