Inter Miami acquired Federico Higuain from D.C. United on Saturday, affording the Argentine playmaker the chance to link up with his brother, Gonzalo Higuain, in Fort Lauderdale.

In exchange, Inter Miami sent D.C. United $50,000 in 2021 General Allocation Money.

"We were thrilled to add more attacking depth, experience, and playmaking ability to our roster when this opportunity presented itself," Inter Miami chief operating officer and sporting director Paul McDonough said.

Federico, 35, firmly established himself as one of the league's most inventive midfielders over eight seasons with the Columbus Crew, scoring 60 goals and assisting 49 times in 193 regular-season appearances. Since joining D.C. United prior to the 2020 campaign as a player and player development coach, he's added two goals across 10 MLS outings.

Gonzalo, 32, joined Inter Miami in September and has fashioned one goal and one assist over three appearances prior to Saturday's meeting with the Houston Dynamo. The striker arrived at Inter Miami after spells with Real Madrid, Napoli, Juventus, AC Milan, and Chelsea in Europe.

Federico and Gonzalo were both on the books of Argentine giants River Plate to begin their respective careers.
