A day after Ajax narrowly escaped a thrilling second-half effort from Lyon to advance to the Europa League final, European football's governing body, UEFA, announced it had opened disciplinary proceedings against the two clubs.

UEFA provided an update on its website Friday, claiming both clubs were being investigated for fan conduct during Thursday's match at Lyon Stade des Lumieres.

"Disciplinary proceedings have been opened following the UEFA Europa League semi-final matches between Olympique Lyonnais and AFC Ajax (3-1)," the succinct statement read.

The French giant has been slapped with four charges: "Setting off fireworks, throwing of objects, field invasion by supporters, and the blocking of stairways," while Ajax is being investigated for "Acts of damage."

For Lyon, it's been an erratic campaign during which performances on the pitch have been shadowed by fan conduct off it. Among those incidents were attacks by pitch-invading Bastia fans, violent conduct by supporters during a Europa League clash with Istanbul giant Besiktas, and a firework thrown by a Metz fan at Les Gones shot-stopper Anthony Lopes in November.
