Canada star Davies suffers hamstring strain with Bayern
Alphonso Davies is dealing with another worrisome injury in the lead-up to the World Cup.
The Canadian full-back "suffered a muscle strain in his right hamstring" during Tuesday's 6-1 Champions League rout of Atalanta, Bayern Munich said in a statement Wednesday. The club offered no timeline for his absence.
Davies was brought on as a halftime substitute, but his appearance was cut short after around 25 minutes due to the issue. The 25-year-old was visibly distraught, and Bayern head coach Vincent Kompany and substitute Tom Bischof consoled Davies as he left the pitch.
Davies provided an assist for Michael Olise before he exited the game.
The former Vancouver Whitecaps player has dealt with numerous injury setbacks over the past two seasons. He returned to Bayern's squad in December after tearing his ACL on Canada duty in March 2025. The trip to Atalanta marked another comeback for Davies after he suffered a hamstring problem in a Bundesliga match in February, but he now faces another spell on the sidelines.
Davies made his Canada debut at 16 and has since gone on to earn 58 caps and captain his country. Canada is a co-host of the 2026 World Cup with the United States and Mexico.
