Alphonso Davies ended speculation about his future by agreeing to a new Bayern Munich contract that runs until 2030, the club announced Tuesday.

"Phonzy has been playing for FC Bayern since he was 18 and quickly embraced the club," sporting director Max Eberl said. "We see him as one of the figures in the new generation of our team who are increasingly taking on responsibility. He's grown up here and will continue to grow with the team."

Real Madrid reportedly had a verbal agreement with Davies in February 2024 to bring him aboard, with the major question at the time being whether he would join that summer or the summer of 2025. However, those talks never became anything more despite the Spanish giants' long-term interest. Clubs in the Premier League were also reportedly pursuing the 24-year-old, according to The Athletic's David Ornstein.

Davies, the captain of Canada's national team, could be sidelined for a significant spell after tearing his hamstring Jan. 22 in a 3-0 Champions League loss to Feyenoord. He made 25 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring once and assisting three times, before his injury setback.

The left-back has won five Bundesliga titles, the Champions League, two DFB-Pokals, three DFL-Supercups, the Club World Cup, and the UEFA Super Cup with Bayern. Davies joined the Bavarian outfit from Major League Soccer's Vancouver Whitecaps for $13.5 million in January 2019.
