Moyes leaving West Ham, Lopetegui reportedly set to take over

David Moyes, who helped West Ham United win the UEFA Europa Conference League last season and end the club's 43-year trophy drought, will leave as manager when his contract expires in June.
West Ham announced Monday they mutually agreed to part ways.
Julen Lopetegui, a free agent after resigning as Wolverhampton manager in August, is widely expected to replace Moyes on a permanent basis.
"By making this announcement now, it allows David to get the send-off he deserves from the West Ham supporters and for us all to show our appreciation to him at our final home fixture of the season against Luton Town on Saturday," West Ham co-chairman David Sullivan said in a statement.
Moyes spent four-and-a-half seasons in charge of the Hammers after returning for a second spell in 2019. The Scotsman found the club deep in the throes of a relegation battle when he arrived but lifted it from the bottom half of the table and back into Europe after establishing some defensive discipline. West Ham finished sixth and seventh over the following two seasons.
Despite the club's fall to 14th last campaign, their European exploits more than made up for their domestic struggles, culminating in a dramatic 2-1 win over Fiorentina in the Europa Conference League final.
This season has been less successful. West Ham have won just three Premier League games in 2024 and were eliminated by Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League quarterfinals. They also lost to second-tier Bristol City in the FA Cup third round and were blown out by Liverpool in the League Cup quarterfinals.
Reported successor Lopetegui has a wealth of experience, having coached Spain and Real Madrid. He also guided Sevilla to Europa League glory in 2020, beating Inter Milan. Lopetegui's time at Wolves ended amid a reported power struggle with the board over a lack of signings.
