Sam Burns grabbed his second career PGA TOUR title and first of the season with a one-stroke victory over Nick Watney and Cameron Young in last year's Sanderson Farms Championship.

Burns, then 25, shot all four rounds under par to finish with a 22-under 266. The result was the lowest score at the tournament since 2014, the year it moved to the Country Club of Jackson. The event was Burns' first of the 2021-22 season.

Burns won two more events later in the campaign - the Valspar Championship and Charles Schwab Challenge.

Hayden Buckley, Andrew Landry, Trey Mullinax, and Henrik Norlander finished two strokes back in a tie for fourth at the 2021 Sanderson Farms Championship.

The Sanderson Farms Championship is in the unlucky position of being scheduled right after the Presidents Cup, which sees 12 of the best American men's players go head-to-head against 12 of the best International golfers (excluding Europe).

Of those 24 Presidents Cup players, South African Christiaan Bezuidenhout and defending champion Burns are the only two golfers teeing it up this week in Mississippi. Joining Burns in the field are four of the event's past eight winners - Ryan Armour, Cody Gribble, Peter Malnati, and Nick Taylor.

Following world No. 12 Burns, Sepp Straka is the next top-ranked player in the field at No. 36. Seamus Power (40), Harris English (45), and Keegan Bradley (48) are the only other golfers inside the top 50 teeing it up this week.

Burns set the tournament's 72-hole record at the Country Club of Jackson last year. Roberto Castro established the 18-hole record during the first round in 2015 by shooting a 62.
