USA maintains 6-point lead after Saturday morning action
The American team maintained its six-point lead at the Presidents Cup on Saturday morning as a 2-2 result in foursomes action set the overall score at 10-4 heading to afternoon play.
After losing both sessions 4-1 to start the event, the Internationals were buoyed by a strong showing from stars Adam Scott and Hideki Matsuyama.
The result means the United States team can't get to the 15.5 points it needs to clinch the Cup on Saturday as there are only four matches in the afternoon.
Here are the results from the foursomes session at Quail Hollow.
Match 11: Spieth/Thomas 4&3 over Im/Conners
The dynamic duo of Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas maintained its perfect record in Presidents Cup foursomes play with another strong showing Saturday. Corey Conners and Sungjae Im got off to a great start with an early win on the second hole, but it was all the Americans from that point on. With the victory, Spieth is now 7-0-0 in Presidents Cup foursomes action with Thomas improving to 4-0-2 in the format.
Match 12: Scott/Matsuyama 3&2 over Young/Morikawa
Presidents Cup stalwarts Scott and Matsuyama finally got a point on the board thanks to a brilliant stretch of golf in the middle of the round. The International pair walked off the No. 7 green trailing 2-down but won five straight holes to flip the match on its head. The victory gave Scott his eighth foursomes win in his Presidents Cup career to match Ernie Els for most ever by an International player.
Match 13: Kim/Lee 2&1 over Scheffler/Burns
This was definitely the most entertaining match of the morning session. Over the course of 17 holes, there were only five that resulted in a tie. The 20-year-old Tom Kim provided multiple moments of brilliance, punctuated by him walking in putts on back-to-back holes on the back nine. His 36-footer for eagle on No. 11 was the highlight of the day and helped propel the Internationals to a much-needed point.
Match 14: Homa/Finau 4&3 over Kim/Davis
Max Homa continued his red-hot play with an incredible chip-in for birdie on the second hole. While that helped stake the American duo of Homa and Tony Finau to an early lead, Si Woo Kim and Cameron Davis fought back to tie the match after seven holes. However, that'd be the peak of the International duo's performance on the day as the Americans won Nos. 8-10 to pull away. Homa now has three full points from three matches in his first team event.
