Cameron Champ carded a final-round 69 on Sunday to win the Safeway Open by one shot over Adam Hadwin.

The 24-year-old was in cruise control for most of the day, leading by as many as five. Thanks to a quiet back nine, however, Champ saw his lead slip away and was tied on the final hole. With the pressure on, he launched a 369-yard drive on the par-5 18th and got up-and-down for birdie to edge Hadwin for the title.

This wasn't a standard PGA Tour win for the Sacramento native. Champ's grandfather - who taught him to play golf when he was a boy - is battling stage-four stomach cancer in a hospice a couple of hours away from Silverado Resort's North Course. Champ dedicated the week to his grandfather and managed to pull off the emotional victory.

"I don't know if it was meant to be or what, but if I win one more tournament or 10, this will be the greatest moment in my golfing career," Champ said in his post-victory interview.

The triumph in Napa marks Champ's second title on the PGA Tour.

Here's how the top of the leaderboard finished:

Place Player To Par R4 Score
1 Cameron Champ -17 69
2 Adam Hadwin -16 67
3 Marc Leishman -14 65
T4 Charles Howell III -13 65
T4 Zac Blair -13 68
T4 Justin Thomas -13 69

Notables Collin Morikawa (11-under), Bryson DeChambeau (10-under), and Adam Scott (9-under) finished inside the top 20.

The PGA Tour is in Las Vegas next week for the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open where Brooks Koepka headlines the field and DeChambeau is the defending champion.
