Tiger cards 2nd round 71 while searching for Augusta-like swing

Tiger Woods didn't have his best stuff at Medinah Country Club for Round 2 on Friday, carding a 1-under 71 for the second straight day.

"It's just not sharp," he said, according to Golf.com's Jessica Marksbury. "I'm trying to make changes in my swing, and it's just not quite there yet."

Woods has only played in five tournaments for a total of 13 competitive rounds since winning the Masters. His lack of play is making it tougher to find the swing that led to success in April.

"I need reps, and I just haven't really put in a lot of reps," he continued. "(I'm) trying to change my plane a little bit, trying to get back to how I kind of had it at Augusta. It was working pretty good there."

Even though he's been struggling to find his swing, the putter also isn't doing him any favors. Tiger ranks 56th out of 69 golfers in strokes gained: putting.

“I certainly haven’t made as many putts,” he added. “Putt well and I’ll shoot good scores. I haven’t done that.”

It's projected he will need a top-11 finish at the BMW Championship to qualify for the Tour Championship and defend his title. He finished Round 2 in a tie for 49th, 10 shots behind leader Hideki Matsuyama.
