Looking to win his first career major, Rickie Fowler got off to a great start after firing a 5-under 66 to share the early U.S. Open lead.

The 30-year-old carded six birdies and a single bogey at the difficult Pebble Beach Golf Links. He hit 15-of-18 greens in regulation and leads by a single shot with two others.

Xander Schauffele joined Fowler atop the leaderboard by making four birdies on the back nine before pouring in an eagle on No. 18.

Louis Oosthuizen is also at 5-under par thanks to a hole-out birdie from the bunker on his final hole and this ridiculous eagle on No. 11, which was the South African's second hole of the day.

With half the field still needing to complete their first round, here's how the top of the leaderboard looks so far:

Place Player To Par R1 Score
T1 Rickie Fowler -5 66
T1 Xander Schauffele -5 66
T1 Louis Oosthuizen -5 66
4 Scott Piercy -4 67
T5 Sepp Straka -3 68
T5 Emiliano Grillo -3 68
T5 Rory McIlroy -3 68
T5 Gary Woodland -3 68
