The Canadian Open is heading to St. George's Golf and Country Club for 2020 and 2024, the tournament announced Friday.

The historic St. George's, located 45 minutes northwest of downtown Toronto, is considered one of Canada's best courses and has hosted the tournament five times, most recently in 2010. The Canadian Open was first held at the Stanley Thompson-designed course in 1933.

Although not ideal, the practice facility for the 2020 event will be five minutes down the road at Islington Golf Club.

With Glen Abbey Golf Club, the Canadian Open's most frequently visited venue, undergoing the initial stages of a real-estate redevelopment, the tournament needed a new home for 2019 and beyond. Hamilton Golf and Country Club will host the tournament this year and again in 2023.

The Canadian Open is already benefitting from its new spot ahead of the U.S. Open on the PGA Tour's schedule. Rory McIlroy is making his debut in Canada this season, with Brooks Koepka and Dustin Johnson also making the trip north.

The 2019 Canadian Open begins June 6.
