Dahmen, Straka share lead after Round 1 of Valspar Championship
Joel Dahmen and Sepp Straka carded 5-under rounds of 66 on Thursday to share a one-stroke lead at the Valspar Championship.
Dahmen set the mark early thanks to a solid performance tee to green. Straka, a 25-year-old from Vienna, Austria, joined Dahmen on top after turning in a bogey-free performance where he led the field in strokes gained: putting.
Former world No. 1 Luke Donald, who is making his second start this season after missing nearly a year due to a back injury, sits in a tie for third after shooting a first-round 67.
Kevin Kisner and Russell Knox join Donald at 4-under par.
Dustin Johnson (2-under), Bubba Watson (2-under), Henrik Stenson (1-under), and Paul Casey (1-under) are a few notables after Day 1.
Jason Day shot a disappointing 3-over 74, but two-time Valspar runner-up Patrick Reed was even worse, posting a 6-over 77 to sit in 135th.
The shot of the day belonged to Knox, who made an albatross on the par-5 11th. The replay shows what golf coverage would look like without any camera operators.
