For the first time in nearly three decades, Phil Mickelson will not participate in the PGA Tour event held closest to his San Diego home.

After 28 consecutive appearances at the Farmers Insurance Open, the 48-year-old announced he'll skip this year's event at Torrey Pines Golf Course next weekend. Mickelson has won the event three times, with the latest victory coming in 2001, though he's posted only one top-10 finish since 2009.

At the end of the 2018 season, the 43-time winner on Tour announced he would make some adjustments to his 2019 schedule. Those changes also include not playing in the Genesis Open at Riviera Country Club, where Mickelson has won twice.

Mickelson's next event will be the Waste Management Phoenix Open, followed by the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am before heading south to defend his title at the WGC-Mexico Championship.
