If what Rickie Fowler and now Jason Day are telling us is true, this Tiger Woods comeback could be different.

Woods is set to make his much-anticipated return to golf next week at the Hero World Challenge, and Day - who's playing the Australian Open this week - told reporters the 41-year-old is ready to go.

"I did talk to him and he did say it's the best he's ever felt in three years," said the Aussie. "He doesn't wake up with pain anymore, which is great."

Woods led the field in birdies at the 2016 Hero World Challenge, and aimed to play four tournaments in a five-week stretch, beginning at Torrey Pines in January. After missing the cut in San Diego, the 79-time PGA Tour winner withdrew prior to the second round in Dubai, eventually undergoing spinal fusion surgery in April, ending his 2016-17 season.

"From what I see on Instagram and what he's been telling me, he says he's ready and I'm hoping that he is," added Day. "Because from what I hear, he's hitting it very long and if he's hitting it long and straight then that's going to be tough for us because it is Tiger Woods."

Woods has won the event on five occasions.
