Flores: 'I was very aware' of FedEx Cup playoff situation
Martin Flores knew what he needed to do late Sunday at the Wyndham Championship to keep his PGA Tour card.
Flores sat 139th in the FedEx Cup points standings coming into the week, and required a great tournament to crack the top 125 in order to qualify for the playoffs and keep his PGA Tour status. The 35-year-old raced up the leaderboard in the final round, making the turn in 5-under, but bogeyed the par-4 11th and felt he had to trim two stokes coming in to save his season.
"I was very aware. I knew exactly what I needed to do," Flores told Amanda Balionis of CBS after. "Especially when I was in No. 15 fairway, the par 5. I knew I needed two more, and I was fortunate to get three."
The three strokes were a hole-in-one at the par-3 16th, and then a beautiful birdie at the 72nd hole to post a 7-under-par 63.

Flores' fantastic finish moved him well inside the top 125, and he's projected to finish 119th in the standings, setting up his first trip back to the playoffs since 2014.
"It was a lot of hard work and a lot of support from family," said an emotional Flores.
