Spieth, Berger put on a show at Travelers

Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

It felt like Jordan Spieth was in complete control Sunday at the Travelers Championship, but then Daniel Berger entered the picture.

The drama began at the par-4 15th hole when Berger went way right of the fairway off the tee, but recovered with a delicate chip shot, and then stroked home the birdie putt to climb into a tie for the lead.

Not to be outdone, Spieth followed up a bogey at No. 14 by making a wild birdie at 15 to regain the lead. After both made routine pars on the par-3 16th hole at TPC River Highlands, Berger fired back with a picture-perfect birdie on 17, jumping back into a tie with the Texan at 12-under par.

The pair both found the greenside bunker on the home hole, and each were able to save par, meaning a playoff was needed to settle the tournament.

On the first extra hole, Spieth again dumped his second shot in the sand, but this time the putter wasn't needed.

Speechless. @JordanSpieth - 2017 winner of the @TravelersChamp.

"It's Jordan doing Jordan things," Berger told Dottie Pepper of CBS after the loss.
