Spieth: Friday's 68 was 'best putting round I've had in a long time'

Jordan Spieth might look back at the four-foot bogey putt he made Friday at Colonial's 14th as the turning point in his season.

Spieth made two bogeys in his first four holes at the Dean & DeLuca Invitational, and was looking at a possible double-bogey at the par-4 14th, but poured in the putt to begin his comeback.

"A really, really important bounce back there," Spieth told pgatour.com after the round. "I walked a putt in at 14 for bogey, and I stepped in, and walked it in, and I just said, 'enough of this.' And that was definitely the key, and I hit great putts from thereon in."

The Texan birdied the next hole, then added four more on the back nine, to shoot a 2-under-par 68, climbing into contention for the weekend.

"We worked from missing the cut, to being in contention. So, I feel good," said the defending champion.

The world No. 7 has missed the cut in his last two starts, which caused him to tinker with his putter last week at the Byron Nelson, only to return to the flatstick that won him two major titles in 2015.

"I felt like I really got back into the rhythm with the putter today. That was the best putting round I've had in a long time," Spieth said.
