Teemu Selanne: Finns were 'were one step behind' Sweden during Friday's semifinal loss

After Friday's 2-1 loss to Sweden in the men's hockey semifinals, Teemu Selanne expressed a tinge of regret in terms of his team not putting its best foot forward.

"Our goal was to try to play our best game, and whatever happens, you can always live with that," Selanne said, via IIHF.com. "I felt we couldn’t do it. I don’t know if the Russia game [a 3-1 quarter-final win] took a little extra energy from us. I felt we were one step behind many times. It’s hard to swallow."

Selanne, 43, has scored two goals and added two assists at the 2014 Olympics, solidifying his position as the all-time leading scorer in the modern era of the Winter Games with 41 points. His dream of going out with a gold, however, is over, but with the possibility of a bronze medal still on the horizon.

"This is hockey," said Selanne. "There are highs and lows, and hopefully tomorrow is going to be a high again."

Finland will face off against Team USA in the bronze medal game on Saturday.
