Steven Stamkos' Dad doesn't think his son could help Canada's scoring woes up front

Heading into Friday's Olympic semifinal match with Team USA, Canada's potent group of forwards have combined to score six goals in four games, with three coming on a hat-trick by Jeff Carter, and the rest being scored by Patrick Sharp, Ryan Getzlaf and Jamie Benn.

Defensemen Drew Doughty (four) and Shea Weber (three) have provided the majority of Canada's offense from the blue line.

Back in Canada, however, at least one person doesn't believe that a healthy Steven Stamkos would have made much of a difference: Chris Stamkos, his father.

“I just think it’s a different style of game,” Stamkos’ father told the Toronto Star. “A lot of the teams are just playing defence and collapsing down low.”

He added "Ovechkin’s the leading scorer in the league and he didn’t have a very good tournament. He had only one goal in the tournament.”

Chris Stamkos also said he had spoken to his son through the course of the tournament, and Steven appeared to agree: "He says the same thing: they do clog up the middle and it’s tough to get through."

We'll never be able to determine if Chris Stamkos' hypothesis is true, but it's safe to say that Team Canada wouldn't say no to Steven if he was available to play on Friday against the U.S.
