Canucks trading Myers to Stars for 2 picks
The Vancouver Canucks are trading defenseman Tyler Myers to the Dallas Stars for a second-round pick in 2027 and a fourth-round pick in 2029, the teams announced Wednesday.
Vancouver is retaining 50% of Myers' cap hit, which is $3 million through next season.
The Canucks and Detroit Red Wings were discussing a deal for Myers last week, but the blue-liner's contract has a no-movement clause, meaning he had final say on his destination.
Myers was born in Houston, Texas, and has family there. The Stars were his first choice, according to CHEK News' Rick Dhaliwal.
The 36-year-old has spent the past seven seasons with the Canucks. He's also suited up for the Buffalo Sabres and Winnipeg Jets across a 1,123-game career to date. Myers, who's known most for his size at 6-foot-8, has contributed eight points in 57 appearances this season while averaging over 20 minutes per contest.
Myers joins a right-side defensive group in Dallas that features Miro Heiskanen, Nils Lundkvist, and Ilya Lyubshkin.
Dallas has won 10 games in a row but remains six points back of the Central Division-leading Colorado Avalanche. The Stars have been eliminated in the Western Conference Final three seasons in a row. They're expected to be active buyers leading up to Friday's trade deadline.
