Canada's Morrissey out vs. Switzerland, Thompson starts in goal
Canada defenseman Josh Morrissey didn't suit up for Friday's round-robin contest against Switzerland after sustaining an injury against Czechia.
Morrissey exited Canada's tournament opener Thursday in the second period and was unable to return. Travis Sanheim drew into the lineup in Morrissey's absence, while Seth Jarvis dressed in place of Brad Marchand.
Logan Thompson started in net after Jordan Binnington's 26-save shutout against Czechia. Darcy Kuemper will serve as backup. Canada was expected to make a change between the pipes in the second half of a back-to-back.
Thompson has posted a .912 save percentage in 39 appearances for the Washington Capitals this season.
Canada can't add an injury replacement for Morrissey now that the tournament is underway. The specifics of Morrissey's injury remain unknown.
Morrissey notched 42 points in 56 games for the Winnipeg Jets prior to the Olympics. He started Thursday's contest on Canada's second defensive pairing with Colton Parayko.
