Avalanche GM: '100% confident' in Bednar as head coach
Colorado Avalanche general manager Chris MacFarland doesn't intend to move on from head coach Jared Bednar despite the club's disappointing first-round exit against the Dallas Stars.
"One hundred percent confident, Jared's our head coach," MacFarland said Tuesday, per DNVR Sports.
The Avalanche let a 2-0 lead slip away in the third period of Saturday's Game 7. Mikko Rantanen, who Colorado traded away in a stunning blockbuster over the winter, registered a hat trick to lead the Stars' comeback.
The loss dropped Bednar to 0-4 in Game 7s and extended the Avs' losing streak in winner-take-all contests to seven. Colorado parted ways with power-play coach Ray Bennett after going 3-for-22 on the man advantage this postseason.
Bednar took over the Avalanche's bench for the 2016-17 campaign. After a dreadful debut season in which the team recorded a .293 points percentage, he's guided Colorado to eight consecutive playoff appearances and won the Stanley Cup in 2022.
However, the Avalanche have only one series win since their championship triumph.
