Blues, Saad mutually terminating contract

The St. Louis Blues will place veteran forward Brandon Saad on unconditional waivers Thursday for the purpose of contract termination, the team announced Wednesday.

Saad is under contract through the 2025-26 season. He is forgoing his remaining salary - $5.425 million over this season and next - to find a new opportunity in the NHL.

The 32-year-old will be an unrestricted free agent once clearing waivers. The Blues waived Saad for the purpose of assignment to the AHL on Tuesday, and he went unclaimed.

Saad has 16 points in 43 games this season in a bottom-six role. He's previously played for the Chicago Blackhawks, Columbus Blue Jackets, and Colorado Avalanche in his 14-year career.

He won the Stanley Cup twice with the Blackhawks and has recorded 55 points in 103 playoff games.
