Penguins' Malkin misses loss to Jackets with upper-body injury
Pittsburgh Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin missed Tuesday's 4-3 shootout loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets and is day-to-day with an upper-body injury.
Malkin ranked third on the Penguins with 32 points (eight goals, 24 assists) in 41 games entering Tuesday's slate.
Here's how Pittsburgh lined up without Malkin in the mix:
Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan said he didn't know when Malkin got hurt and had no additional updates after the game, according to The Athletic's Rob Rossi.
The veteran was held without a point or shot while seeing 17:44 minutes of ice time during Pittsburgh's 4-3 overtime loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on Sunday.
Malkin hadn't missed a game since the 2021-22 campaign when he was limited to just 41 contests due to a knee injury, illness, and suspension. He played in 209 consecutive games before Tuesday's absence, according to the Tribune-Review Sports' Seth Rorabaugh.
The Penguins are now 153-79-27 without Malkin in the lineup.
