Brind'Amour becomes fastest coach to 300 wins in NHL history
Carolina Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind'Amour made history in a 5-2 win over the New Jersey Devils on Saturday night, becoming the fastest bench boss in league history to notch 300 victories.
He accomplished the feat in his 488th game as a coach. He has a 300-143-45 record over his career.
The 54-year-old eclipsed Bruce Boudreau, who held the previous mark for nearly 11 years. Boudreau nabbed his 300th win in his 496th contest while coaching the Anaheim Ducks in February 2014. He hasn't been an NHL head coach since the 2022-23 campaign.
Brind'Amour is in his seventh season guiding the Hurricanes after spending 10 of his 21 campaigns with them as a player.
The Canes have been one of the NHL's most competitive teams under Brind'Amour: He's led them to a pair of conference final appearances (2018-19 and 2022-23), and they've made the playoffs every year he's been at the helm. They missed the postseason for nine straight years before he took over.
Carolina hired him as an assistant coach in June 2011 following his retirement from playing after the 2009-10 campaign. The club elevated him to head coach in May 2018.
