Rangers' Panarin day-to-day with upper-body injury
New York Rangers star Artemi Panarin is considered day-to-day with an upper-body injury and missed Sunday's 3-2 loss to the St. Louis Blues.
Panarin leads New York with 15 goals and 36 points - including 24 at even strength - in 29 outings.
The news is another blow for the floundering Rangers, who have now lost 10 of their past 13 games. Their three wins over this stretch have come against the Montreal Canadiens, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Buffalo Sabres, who are all at or near the bottom of their respective divisions.
Winger Kaapo Kakko was also out versus St. Louis but as a healthy scratch. Rangers head coach Peter Laviolette said postgame that the decision was about "putting fresh legs in the lineup," according to the New York Post's Mollie Walker.
Here's how the Rangers lined up without Panarin:
Chris Kreider was on the fourth line, while Mika Zibanejad saw just 13:04 minutes of ice time, far below his season average of 18:33.
New York attempted to shake things up in early December by trading captain Jacob Trouba to the Anaheim Ducks, but the team has lost four times in six contests since the move.
Panarin has led the Rangers in points in each of the previous five seasons.
