Sharks recall Askarov from AHL
The San Jose Sharks brought up goaltender Yaroslav Askarov from the AHL on Monday.
Askarov is an impressive 6-3-0 with the San Jose Barracuda this season with a .939 save percentage and 1.92 goals against average. He was named the AHL's goalie of the month for October.
The Sharks acquired Askarov from the Nashville Predators over the offseason. Nashville drafted Askarov 11th overall in 2020, but he reportedly wanted out of the organization because of an uncertain path to consistent NHL playing time.
It's unclear if and when Askarov will make his debut for the Sharks. San Jose plays host to the Detroit Red Wings on Monday night, and it has a back-to-back on the road against the Dallas Stars and St. Louis Blues later this week.
Sharks netminder Vitek Vanecek left Saturday's contest with an undisclosed injury, and his status going forward is unclear. Mackenzie Blackwood is the other goalie on the roster.
San Jose is currently 31st in the league at 5-10-4.
