Flames solve Oettinger in OT to eliminate Stars

The Calgary Flames eliminated the Dallas Stars from the playoffs with a 3-2 overtime win in Game 7 on Sunday night.

Stars goaltender Jake Oettinger made an incredible 64 saves but wasn't able to secure the victory as Johnny Gaudreau beat him in overtime.

"You dream about stuff like that, scoring a goal in a Game 7 overtime," Gaudreau said postgame, according to Postmedia's Wes Gilbertson.

When asked where the overtime marker ranks on his all-time list, Gaudreau didn't hesitate to put it at the top.

"Is that a question, really? There's no bigger stage than what we just did there," Gaudreau said, according to Sportsnet's Eric Francis. "It was really special for me."

Oettinger's 64 saves are the second-most stops in a Game 7 in NHL history, per Stats by STATS. Only Kelly Hrudey had more when he stopped 73 shots for the Islanders against the Capitals in 1987.

Jamie Benn opened the scoring for Dallas just 40 seconds into the contest. Tyler Toffoli tied things up in the second before Vladislav Namestnikov and Matthew Tkachuk traded goals to enter the third period tied at two apiece.

The Flames will now take on the rival Edmonton Oilers in the second round. It's the first time since 1991 that the Battle of Alberta will be renewed in the postseason.

Milan Lucic, who had one assist versus Dallas, is looking forward to taking on his former team.

"It's great. It's what the people wanted," Lucic said postgame, per Sportsnet. "They got it done last night, we got it done tonight. I've been a part of Boston-Montreal four times, so it's a similar type of rivalry, similar type of hate."

He added: "It's gonna be a great matchup. They had a great Game 7 as well last night, so, two good teams going at it."
