Colorado Avalanche forward Nathan MacKinnon made his season debut Tuesday against the Washington Capitals.

The forward registered two negative COVID-19 tests and reportedly flew to Washington, D.C. late Monday night, The Athletic's Peter Baugh reports. The Avalanche confirmed his arrival Tuesday morning.

MacKinnon missed Colorado's first two games after testing positive for COVID-19 over a week ago. He was asymptomatic.

Bednar said Sunday that MacKinnon had another positive test and initially wasn't going to travel with the team for their upcoming three-game road trip, which begins in D.C. The star center needed two negative COVID-19 tests to clear protocols.

The three-time Hart Trophy finalist has 560 points in 573 career games. Colorado went 1-1-0 without him in the lineup to start the campaign.
