Fantasy Football convention headed by Tony Romo canceled by NFL
Fans hoping to ask players for fantasy football advice in person will have to wait another year.
The first ever National Fantasy Football Convention was canceled by the NFL after the league cited concerns with it's connection with casinos. The event was scheduled to take place July 10-12 at the Venetian Resort Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
Tony Romo, who put the project together, would have been one of more than 100 current and former players involved in the event. He tweeted the news late Friday night.
NFL has canceled our fantasy football convention this year in Vegas and that is disappointing. I'm sad for the fans and players.

According to an NFL spokeman via FOX Sports. "Players and NFL personnel may not participate in promotional activities or other appearances at or in connection with events that are held at or sponsored by casinos."
The NFL reportedly took serious measures to prevent active players from participating in the convention, too.
One source involved with the convention told FOX Sports that NFL representatives called players and even the parents of some players warning of possible suspensions if they participated in the event. An NFL spokesman denied that happened.
The official site for the event released the following statement:
It’s with incredibly heavy hearts that we announce to you that we will be postponing the National Fantasy Football Convention, as we no longer feel comfortable and confident in delivering on our intent, ambitions and opportunities for fans. This is a direct result of sudden and unexpected opposition taken by the NFL concerning player participation and their perceived association with gambling for an event in Las Vegas.
We could not be more shocked and disappointed by the events of the past few days, and we want to extend our sincerest apologies for any inconveniences, frustrations, and disappointment this will undoubtedly cause. We also want to express our heartfelt gratitude for your support and interest in the National Fantasy Football Convention.
Fans hoping to see the event re-scheduled may be in luck though. The website also has Los Angeles 2016 listed on their home page.
