Eight-time Pro Bowl quarterback Philip Rivers, who retired five years ago, worked out for the Indianapolis Colts on Monday night following Daniel Jones' season-ending Achilles injury, sources told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

Indianapolis could look to sign him to its practice squad initially, Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network add. Rivers, who is now a grandfather, still has to decide if he's willing to return to the NFL, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter. He just celebrated his 44th birthday Monday and hasn't played in the NFL since 2020 when he was the Colts' starting quarterback. He's been coaching high school for the last half-decade.

Riley Leonard, who filled in for Jones on Sunday after the latter tore his Achilles, is dealing with a strained knee ligament and is considered week-to-week, a source told Schefter. Indy is reportedly uncertain if he'll be healthy enough to play against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 15.

The Colts' other quarterback, Anthony Richardson, has been sidelined since October after undergoing surgery to repair a broken orbital bone. He hasn't been medically cleared to return. The former fourth overall pick was Jones' backup for the first five games of the season.

Rivers went 11-5 with Indianapolis during his lone season with the organization, leading the club to a playoff spot. He spent 16 years with the Los Angeles Chargers from 2004-19 before joining the Colts. He led the league in passing yards in 2010 and completion percentage in 2013.

The NC State product posted a 134-106 record in 240 career starts, throwing for 63,440 yards with 421 touchdowns.

Indy started the season 8-2, but has lost three straight games and is no longer in first place in the AFC South heading into Week 15.
