Potential top pick Carter advised not to have foot surgery

Highly touted prospect Abdul Carter was told surgery on his right foot is not advisable after further scans, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Carter's tests at the combine revealed he was dealing with a stress reaction in his foot. He originally mulled surgery, which would have sidelined him for about eight weeks.

Carter will still work out at his pro day at Penn State on March 28.

"I couldn't be more confident that this will be a non-factor where he's drafted," Carter’s agent Drew Rosenhaus told Schefter. "He will put on a show at his pro day."

Rosenhaus said Wednesday that he doesn't expect the injury to impact where his client lands in the upcoming draft. Carter has apparently already met with the Tennessee Titans, Cleveland Browns, New York Giants, and New England Patriots - the top four picks in the upcoming draft.

"After visiting with teams this week, I believe (Carter)'s going to be the No. 1 overall pick," Rosenhaus said Wednesday, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Carter went on the record saying he's "the best player in the country." He registered 12 sacks and 23.5 tackles for a loss in his junior season and was named the Big Ten defensive player of the year.
