St. Brown sees Lions getting season opener vs. Eagles
Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown says it makes sense for Detroit to open the 2025 NFL season in Philadelphia against the Super Bowl champion Eagles.
"That's what I'm saying. We might be playing Week 1 at Lincoln Financial Field," St. Brown said on his podcast when discussing options for the Eagles' opponent in the season opener.
The defending Super Bowl champions host the first game of the following season. The NFL can choose between the Eagles' eight home opponents for the opener: the Lions, Washington Commanders, Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants, Los Angeles Rams, Chicago Bears, Denver Broncos, or Las Vegas Raiders.
The Lions missed out on playing Philadelphia in this year's NFC Championship Game after they were upset at home by the Commanders 45-31 in the divisional round. Detroit entered the postseason as the NFC's No. 1 seed with a 15-2 record.
St. Brown said starting next season against the Eagles would show how a healthy Detroit defense matches up against the champions.
"You would see with our healthy defense, how that shit operates," the wideout said.
The Lions' defense struggled mightily against Washington after the unit was ravaged by injuries down the stretch of the season. By the start of the playoffs, Detroit was without defensive starters Aidan Hutchinson, Carlton Davis, Marcus Davenport, Alim McNeill, and Malcolm Rodriguez, among others.
Detroit previously played the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2023 season opener, winning 21-20 at Arrowhead Stadium and spoiling the hosts' Super Bowl celebration.
St. Brown is a two-time first-team All-Pro. He's played four NFL seasons, making the Pro Bowl in each of the last three. He scored a career-high 12 touchdowns in 2024.
