Sean Culkin, who planned to convert 2021 salary to Bitcoin, cut by Chiefs

Sean Culkin's plans to convert his entire 2021 salary to Bitcoin have come to a halt after the tight end was released by the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday, according to Sam McDowell of the Kansas City Star.

Culkin intended to make history this season by becoming the first NFL player ever to convert their entire salary into Bitcoin. He signed a reserve/futures contract with the Chiefs in February and would have made $920,000 in U.S. dollars if he made the roster.

Other players have ventured into Bitcoin, as former Carolina Panthers offensive tackle Russell Okung switched roughly half of his 2020 salary to cryptocurrency.

Culkin's release comes after the Chiefs brought in more reinforcements to help with depth around tight end Travis Kelce. Kansas City recently drafted Noah Gray in the fifth round and signed Blake Bell during free agency earlier in the offseason.

A four-year veteran, Culkin spent three seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers before signing with the Baltimore Ravens last year. He has two career receptions.
