Report: Texans expected to request 2nd HC interviews with Bieniemy, Frazier

The Houston Texans are expected to request second interviews for their head coaching vacancy with Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy and Buffalo Bills defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier after Sunday's AFC title game, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Both candidates have already started to assemble a coaching staff in advance in case they're hired, Schefter adds.

Bieniemy is one of the NFL's hottest head coaching candidates. Deshaun Watson, the Texans' disgruntled quarterback, advocated for the team to interview Bieniemy early in its head coaching search, but the front office ignored his initial requests.

Houston reportedly interviewed the 51-year-old for the first time earlier this week.

Hiring Bieniemy could be crucial to keep Watson in Houston. The three-time Pro Bowler has expressed his disappointment with the franchise after being left out of its general-manager hiring process.

Bieniemy has been praised for his role in developing the Chiefs' juggernaut offense since being promoted to offensive coordinator in 2018, and particularly his work with quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Meanwhile, Frazier has been the assistant head coach and defensive coordinator of the Bills since 2017, helping turn Buffalo into one of the league's most competitive teams. The 61-year-old previously worked as head coach of the Minnesota Vikings from 2011 to 2013.

The Texans have contacted multiple head coach candidates since the end of the season, including veteran quarterback Josh McCown and Indianapolis Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus.
