The fifth-leading rusher in NFL history plans to take a knee before games this fall.

"Without a doubt," Washington Redskins running back Adrian Peterson said Friday at a charity event in Texas, according to Greg Bailey of KTRK.

"We're all getting ready to take a knee together," Peterson added.

The issue has returned to the forefront after the death of George Floyd in police custody in Minneapolis last Monday prompted protests against police brutality and racial inequality across the United States.

Several NFL players have participated in marches and protests in their home states, and it could lead to more players taking a knee during the national anthem, as was the case in 2016 when Colin Kaepernick led the charge.

"Are they going to try to punish us all? If not playing football is going to help us save lives and change things, then that's just what it has to be," Peterson said, according to TMZ Sports.
