Report: 49ers signing Travis Benjamin to 1-year deal

The San Francisco 49ers are adding a deep-threat receiver to help replace Emmanuel Sanders, as the reigning NFC champions will sign Travis Benjamin to a one-year deal, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.

Benjamin spent the last four seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers, who opted not to retain the speedy wideout.

The Niners were looking to add another target for quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo after Sanders agreed to join the New Orleans Saints in free agency.

Benjamin, a former Cleveland Browns fourth-round pick, saw his production decline since joining the Chargers in 2016, and he missed 15 games over the last two seasons while battling various injuries.

The 30-year-old joins a young and crowded group of receivers in San Francisco, which includes Deebo Samuel, Dante Pettis, Jalen Hurd, and Kendrick Bourne. Marquise Goodwin rounds out the position, but he reportedly isn't expected to be back with the team in 2020.
