Competition committee admits only clear errors will be overturned on PI review

The NFL's competition committee admitted Tuesday that there has to be clear evidence to overturn pass interference calls with the new replay system.

"It's got to be an obvious error and have to result in substantial hindrance," committee chairman Rich McKay said, according to Newsday's Bob Glauber.

Entering the weekend, NFL coaches were 1-for-21 on pass interference challenges, according to ESPN's Kevin Seifert. Plays that have appeared to be clear instances of interference have still gone unpenalized after review.

The growing sense has been that a play must be on the same level of the non-call against the New Orleans Saints in last year's NFC Championship Game to be reversed.

Though coaches may be finding that the new system is not working, the competition committee doesn't anticipate any in-season changes.

"I think we're going to reserve judgment until the season's over and gotten an opportunity to look at all the tape," McKay said.
