Elway: 'No one from our side is on the trading block'
The reeling Denver Broncos aren't looking to sell off assets as the NFL trade deadline approaches.
"No one from our side is on the trading block," general manager John Elway said Friday, according to Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic. "We're going to try to win football games."
It took Denver five weeks to find a victory this season, finally defeating the Los Angeles Chargers five days ago to get to 1-4. The Broncos haven't reached the postseason since their Super Bowl campaign in 2015.
Since 1980, only six out of 176 teams that began the season with three straight losses have made the playoffs. Elway believes the Broncos can become the seventh, though.
"I still think we have a chance to do some good things," he said, according to Ryan O'Halloran of the Denver Post. "We have to take them one (game) at a time. We dug ourselves a little bit of a hole early but we've played good football, we just (weren't) able to win some of them. It was nice to get one last week."
Denver sits fourth in the AFC West. The rumor mill has been flooded with speculation that Broncos veterans such as Von Miller and Emmanuel Sanders could be made available closer to the trade deadline. Miller is off to a slow start with only two sacks, but the 30-year-old would still net Denver a significant return.
The trade deadline is Oct. 29. The Broncos were sellers a year ago, moving Demaryius Thomas to the Houston Texans for a pair of draft picks.
