Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers will likely play out his current contract and work out a new deal with the club next offseason, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Rivers is due $16 million in 2019, the final season of his four-year, $83.3-million extension signed in 2015.

The 38-year-old has started every game for the Chargers since 2006. He earned his eighth Pro Bowl selection last year after throwing for 4,308 yards, 32 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.

Los Angeles is currently negotiating a new deal with disgruntled running back Melvin Gordon.
