Russell Wilson couldn't be more excited about his newest weapon.

The Seattle Seahawks' star quarterback showered rookie wide receiver D.K. Metcalf - whose freakish athleticism wowed the NFL world at the combine in March - with praise Wednesday for his performance during offseason workouts.

"It's great seeing D.K. make his plays. I think D.K. is looking really, really special," Wilson said during minicamp, according to John Boyle of the Seahawks' official website. "He can do anything and everything and he's tremendous."

The 6-foot-4, 229-pound receiver posted a blistering 4.33 time in the 40-yard dash along with a 40.5-inch vertical, after which he was widely expected to hear his name called during Day 1 of the draft. But Metcalf ultimately slid to the final pick of the second round, due in part to concerns about how he would deal with the transition to the professional level.

Wilson, however, has no such concerns. The veteran pivot said Metcalf has already proven himself to be far more than just an athletic freak.

"His knowledge of the game first," Wilson said. "Everybody knows about the ability to run and jump and catch and all that. But I think more than anything else, it's his brain, how he processes information, how quickly he understands it. He's really intelligent, he understands the game really well. He takes coaching well, he gets extra work.

With longtime Seahawks receiver Doug Baldwin retiring this offseason, Metcalf is expected to start alongside Tyler Lockett as a rookie.
