Umpire Roy Ellison was fined one game check - $9,300 - for his role in a Dec. 2 altercation with Buffalo Bills defensive end Jerry Hughes, sources told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero and Mike Garafalo.

Ellison, who was placed on administrative leave after the incident, has been reinstated and assigned to Sunday's game between the New York Giants and Tennessee Titans. He missed one week while on leave.

Hughes accused Ellison of calling him an expletive during the Bills' Week 13 loss to the Miami Dolphins. Hughes confronted him in the tunnel after the game and was later fined $53,482 for his behavior.

The NFL Referees Association called Hughes a frequent verbal abuser of its officials following Ellison's suspension. The association said in a statement Friday that it will consider filing a grievance objecting to the fine on Ellison's behalf.
